Happy 20th Anniversary to Disney's 'A Goofy Movie'.

8:27:00 PM
My brother let me know today that I was getting pretty old...

My brother let me know that he read via Entertainment Weekly that today is Disney's 'A Goofy Movie' 20th anniversary.

I have a true weak spot for this animated movie... I'm not sure why. What I will tell you is that it's my second favorite Disney movie after 'The Lion King(That's right! Beat out all of the Disney Princesses). Till this day I think this movie was terribly over looked. If you haven't seen it, go watch it NOW!

Max was moody and like many of us embarrassed by his dad, Goofy. They went through trial and tribulations and all sorts of ups and downs/father son fights. The movie had some really great emotional scenes going on. At the end I think Max realized what was important and realized his dad loved him and would do anything for him. Goofy even helped Max catch the affection of his mega crush and ultra Disney babe Roxanne.

One of the things I think has been over looked the most in A Goofy Movie is that spectacular songs. Tevin Campbell voiced 'Powerline' which was Max's and all of his friends super cool music idol. He was super smooth, had movies like Michael Jackson and an awesome futuristic style.

He also sang amazing songs with fantastic lyrics like "Eye 2 Eye' and "Stand Out". I think Eye 2 Eye might be one of my favorite songs in like as a matter of fact. The lyrics are so romantic and inspiring and the song has so much energy. It's absolutely fantastic.

Lyrics from Eye 2 Eye and the great 'Perfect Cast' dance Goofy and Max created. A truly heart warming movie.

If you're a good friend you'll pay The Goofy Movie Forward. It's so ridiculously underrated, I've talked to so many people about this. Tell you're friends about them or even better do something that I've done, buy them the DVD and give it to them!

Below is my favorite song from the movie Eye 2 Eye. Goofy and Max crash PowerLine's concert and it's pretty epic. Enjoy!

I Am So Smitten With These!

(Dexter and DeeDee)

Dennis Salvatier AKA Tanoshiboy created a series of LilBFFS and I can't stop starring at them. I love looking at art that makes me happy. He's brought some intense joy into my day by making me think back to my childhood (simpler days) and remember how much fun I would have watching these cartoons he's drawn.

From Super Heros, Dexters Lab, Ducktales, to some of my favorites shows on Nickleodeon! Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats. He's even featured Babs and Buster Bunny from Tiny Toons and those zany Animaniacs.

Women Wednesday: Geek Girl Declaration.

11:05:00 AM
I found this goodie while searching The Fangirls Guide To The Galaxy...

I thought it was a good message to share on "Women Wednesday. Geek girls don't have to prove themselves. Whether you're new to embracing the geek girl in you or you're a vet... you have to just own it, you don't have to pass any test! You can be a girly girl and still a geek girl... don't let anyone judge you! It's ok to support and encourage the new female characters and writers in the comic book industry (girls have to stick together). GEEK GIRLS DON'T APOLOGIZE. You're smart, beautiful and witty.

Make sure you read the whole snippet and go do your thing girl! A Fan girl, a Geek Girl, a Feminist... whatever they want to call you, you are a force to be reckoned with!

DC Comics Pulls "Batgirl" Joker Variant Cover At Artist's Request.

12:13:00 PM
Oh The Controversy...

Did you guys see the variant cover for "Batgirl" #41? Well guess what?! It will not be published by DC Comics I learned yesterday. What I found even more crazy but I guess a bit understandable was that the request to pull it was from the cover's artist, Rafael Albuquerque.
"My intention was never to hurt or upset anyone through my art," Albuquerque, the acclaimed artist of "American Vampire," said in a statement. "For that reason, I have recommended to DC that the variant cover be pulled."
DUDE WHY?

I don't think the cover should have been pulled AT ALL. We can agree to disagree on this. Here are a few general reasons why.
1) Rafael Albuquerque is an artist! He's an expressive person and should conserve the right to be creative as he wishes. He's talented and that's why he got hired to begin with.
2) They're fictional characters!!! The Joker is an evil one at that! How about way worse things that go on in books, TV, movies and all sorts of places that are way more violent towards women than this?
3) I actually think it fits really well with the story line from the 1988 story "Batman: The Killing Joke". I think he did a good job paying homage.
4) This can start an ugly trend in the Comic Book industry. Will people start a social media campaign every time a cover slightly offends them? Will more covers/variants get pulled? I feel like this open up a can of worms.

The variant was inspired from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's popular 1988 story "Batman: The Killing Joke," in which Barbara Gordon/Batgirl was shot and paralyzed by the Joker. It was always insinuated that the character was also sexually assaulted... but never confirmed.
The hashtag #changethecover  was very active on Twitter and Tumblr asking DC to not release the variant. Then threats and all sorts of craziness started floating around the internet of course.

Rafael Albuquerque:
My Batgirl variant cover artwork was designed to pay homage to a comic that I really admire, and I know is a favorite of many readers. 'The Killing Joke' is part of Batgirl’s canon and artistically, I couldn't avoid portraying the traumatic relationship between Barbara Gordon and the Joker.
For me, it was just a creepy cover that brought up something from the character’s past that I was able to interpret artistically. But it has become clear, that for others, it touched a very important nerve. I respect these opinions and, despite whether the discussion is right or wrong, no opinion should be discredited.
My intention was never to hurt or upset anyone through my art. For that reason, I have recommended to DC that the variant cover be pulled. I'm incredibly pleased that DC Comics is listening to my concerns and will not be publishing the cover art in June as previously announced.
With all due respect,
Rafa
DC Entertainment:
We publish comic books about the greatest heroes in the world, and the most evil villains imaginable. The Joker variant covers for June are in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Joker.
Regardless if fans like Rafael Albuquerque’s homage to Alan Moore’s THE KILLING JOKE graphic novel from 25 years ago, or find it inconsistent with the current tonality of the Batgirl books - threats of violence and harassment are wrong and have no place in comics or society.
We stand by our creative talent, and per Rafael’s request, DC Comics will not publish the Batgirl variant. – DC Entertainment

In all honesty... What do you think about this situation? I highly disagree with the cover being pulled. It was a great piece of art and should have been published.

Trailer And Poster For Bill Plympton's Animated Film CHEATIN'.

11:23:00 AM
I am a big fan of Bill Plympton So I'm Very Excited For CHEATIN'.

There's a lot of reasons I'm a fan of Mr. Plympton's. To name a few...

  • I'm a fan of his kooky, surreal, signature animated style.
  • I love his everlasting appreciation for the art of silent films. He's a superb visual story-teller.
  • He is a big fan of fellow animators and constantly encourages more people to pursue the career.
  • I always enjoy his racy story lines that tend to be a mix of Romance, Sex, Drama, Naughty Behavior, and Death.
  • He's almost like a real life cartoon in a great way.
  • He actually drew all 40,000 frames of Cheatin' (Who Does That? AMAZING.)
  • He kicked ass with his Kick-Starter for CHEATIN' which was inspiring to see.
  • He makes animated films for adults to enjoy with real adult problems and situations! (Wake up and smell the coffee Hollywood! When will you get this?!)
  • He has a great sense of humor. You should check out his book "Make Toons That Sell Without Selling Out" He also laughs when I've asked him questions in the past like "Why do you always wear Hawaiian shirts?" ha.
  • He's great to talk to in person. I've had a few conversations with him and he's very approachable, encouraging and detailed.

For these reasons and many, many more you should become familiar with his films. He's a crazy, passionate hard worker.

His latest film CHEATIN' is going to be released Friday, April 3 in New York (Village East) with a national roll out to follow including: Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, Denver, Portland and others throughout April.

Below is a poster and trailer for the animated film.

Minion Art By Dane Smith.

10:49:00 AM
I don't know if it's because the Minion movie is dropping this Summer...

But my friend Dane (BKDane) AKA Animator extraordinaire, has been Minion-izing a bunch of his friends and last night he Minion-ized me!

Original Photo

Pretty freaken sweet right?

I think it's awesome how he takes the smallest details from his friends photos, whether it be what they're wearing, an activity they're doing, their hair, their posture... he just takes the smallest little detail and translates them over to these Minions with successful results. Basically, he has a really good artistic eye for this sort of stuff and I must say the end results are very enjoyable to look at. Also, lets be real, who doesn't love a minion? They captivated our hearts in 'Despicable Me', I wish they were real! I would have at least 2 of them rolling with me at all times! Minion art is genius!

Here are a few of Dane's other friends he's Minion-ized for your viewing pleasure:

Make sure to check out Dane's Instagram and Facebook to see more daily sketches and get inspired. He doesn't only do Minions, he sketches all sorts of cool stuff.

Saturday Goodie - Bill Plympton: 'Your Face'.

12:17:00 PM
If I could think of 2 words to describe the animated short 'Your Face' (1987) off the top of my head it would be WARPED and absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Then again, that probably applies to a lot of Bill Plymtons work (Which I'm a huge fan of).

'Your Face' was nominated for an Academy Award in 1988 for 'Best Animation'. It's about a man singing about the admiration he has for his lovers face and while doing so, his own is morphing into a bunch of strange shapes and even devouring itself over and over.

Fun Fact: Many people would assume that a man was singing the song in the film but, it was actually written and sung by Maureen McElheron. The song was then slowed down to sound like a man's voice because Plympton didn't want to hire a male singer. I guess he figured why spend the extra cash when he could just figure out a way to get it done in-house. If you've ever read any of his books or seen his other short films such as "How To Kiss" or "25 Ways To Quit Smoking" you'd know he's quite the innovative problem solver.

Anyways, below I bring you 'Your Face'. A awesome short film that Bill Plympton graced the world with. Enjoy!

Coach X Gary Baseman 2015 Spring Collection Video.

12:18:00 PM
Check out the video for Coach X Gary Baseman's Spring 2015 collection.

"Stuart Vevers’ Spring 2015 collection is a journey across America inspired by vintage road-trip cinema and West Coast subcultures of music, skate and surf. The collection evokes what Vevers has described as “a sense of everydayness, twisted.” Featuring darkly playful creatures from Los Angeles artist Gary Baseman and a palette inspired by the eerie colors of the golden hour before sundown, the collection was filmed in a dreamlike rain shower on the streets of Ditmas Park in Brooklyn, New York."

If you're like me you're going to look very closely and try to find all the Gary Baseman characters... Wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of these pieces... The purses I like with Baseman's character are anywhere from 650-700 dollars. Check out the collection here

The video had a very cool, ethereal, trippy vibe, I could dig it...

Wasabi Art Makes Sushi More Fun To Eat By Tamashiro Jon.

2:42:00 PM
Talk about Sushi Porn.

While roaming through my instagram feed, I saw the good people over at Tokidoki featured a wasabi Bastardino character and it was freaking adorable! I was very impressed by the detail in the wasabi art, beautiful food art really. They linked the photo back to Tamashiro Jon's profile. He is currently a Chef at M Life Nightclub in Hawaii.

After a little instagram stalking on his profile, I was absolutely delighted to see all of the cute characters he's been creating. Characters from Disney, Sanrio, Tokidoki, and more. I can only hope to make my way down to Hawaii one day and see one of his creations in person (Kawaii!).

As someone who really enjoys eating out, It's not always 100 percent about the food but also about the way everything is displayed. When you see something beautiful on a dish it immediately opens up your appetite before even tasting the food, I suspect this is something chef Tamashiro is very good at. I Seeing these characters in person would leave me with an absolute smile on my face.

Below see some of Tamashiro Jon's creations.

Ted

Pusheen The Cat

Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Stitch from Lilo and Stitch

Good Luck Bear from the Carebears.

Doraemon

Keroppi

Yoshi from Super Mario Bros

Domo

If you're in Hawaii make sure to stop by M Life Nightclub and experience Tamashiro Jon's work in person. If you can't make it out, live vicariously through his Instagram @meestaaroha.
