Nekojiru-sou (Cat Soup) Anime.

3:33:00 PM
So, This Anime Was Interesting To Say The Least...

My brother put my on to an experimental anime from 2001 the other day, Nekojiru-sou (Cat Soup) directed by Tatsuo Satō. The film was inspired by the work of manga artist Nekojiru. I haven't watched an anime film in a while, but I predict myself entering an anime kick this month. Anyway, I recommend you all open your minds and watch this movie.

The plot is basically, Nyatta goes on a trippy, psychedelic journey with his sister in order to save her soul. Nyatta's older sister Nyāko accidentally drowns in a bathtub and is found dead. Nyatta see's his sister leaving the house with the reaper and tries to rip Nyāko away from it. Instead,  Nyāko splits in two leaving the reaper with half of her soul while her brother runs away with the other half. Pretty freaking crazy right? The reaper sends a clue about a flower they must search for in order to get back the missing half-soul... AND THAT'S WHERE THE JOUREY BEGINS.

I really loved the anime. Its tragic but at the same time very beautiful and touching. I found it had a lot of cryptic messages and really left me pondering. It's also trippy as hell! After watching it I saw comments around the web comparing the movie to "being on the ultimate high" because it was such a mind-bending, surreal journey. I found it utterly refreshing. Most of it seemed like something from a child's warped imagination to me... but it was perfect.

I also learned that Nekojiru who originally created the cat character in her manga series was a mentally ill traumatized woman who committed suicide at age 31 in 1998. The reasons for her suicide were unclear, a note was never found.

Anyways, If you have about 30 minutes to spare you can watch it below.

Marvel x Hip Hop Variant Covers.

2:46:00 PM
Marvel Loves Hip Hop...

What do you guys think of these Marvel Hip Hop variant covers? Pretty rad right?

Below enjoy seeing some of your favorite hero and heroines paying homage to some sick hip hop albums. From Biggie, Wu-Tang Clan, Dr. Dre, Eric B. and Rakim to Lauryn Hill and more to come.

If you keep an eye out for all-new #1's from Marvel Comics coming this fall, you may get the chance to purchase your own Marvel Comics variant cover featuring some of your favorite Marvel characters paying homage to some of the dopest artist from the past few years. Some are no longer with us such as Biggie and ODB, but their music lives on in our hearts and memories...  now with a little help from Marvel too.

"For years, Marvel Comics and Hip-Hop culture have been engaged in an ongoing dialog," says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso.  "Beginning this October, we will shine a spotlight on the seamless relationship between those two unique forces in when we unveil the first of more than fifty variant covers, each of which pays tribute to an iconic album cover from the past 30 years that shaped pop-culture over the past three decades."

I'm super excited to see more covers, though I must confess... I'm a little disappointed not to see Tupac in these sneak peeks :(

Looks Like We Have Elektra Joining "Marvel's Daredevil" Season 2.

7:04:00 PM
Élodie Yung has been cast as Elektra for Netflix "Marvel’s Daredevil”.

This makes me sooooo happy! First off, I was very pleased with Marvel's Daredevil season one which already has me excited and anxiously waiting for season 2. Secondly, Elektra?! Fantastic!

You may know Elodie Yung from “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” or “District 13: Ultimatum” I have a feeling she's going to crush this role. Also to be frank, I'm happy with the resemblance she has with the way the comic book character has been illustrated.

Elektra is a sexy, mysterious, hot lady and a Daredevil fan favorite. Her and Matt Murdock have quite the history together and I can't wait to see how their romance and chemistry will come to life in season 2. I think it will be perfection.

“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

Who else is hype? I think I foresee a lot more Elektra cosplay than usual coming soon. Who knows, maybe even I'll join the party ;-)
